1. What media types can I use with the SU flowmeter?

Accepted Answer

The SU series can be used with different media types and is sorted by part number. Please use the chart below to pick out an option based on your media.

SUxx2x	90% water solutions (conductive or non-conductive)
SUxx3x	35% glycol solutions and oil media from 7…68 mm²/s at 40°C
SUHxxx	90% water solutions and food oils from 30…68 mm²/s at 40°C

2. How to program the SU sensors with LED display?

General use of pushbuttons

Press Mode/Enter (M/E) until desired paramter is displayed.
Press Set (S) to display the current setting.
To change setting, press and hold the Set (S) button until the display stops flashing. Then press Set (S) to toggle through options.
When desired value is reached, press Mode/Enter (M/E) to confirm the setting.

The following illustrate the most common programming required for flow meter applications. Refer to the Operating Instructions manual found under the "Downloads" tab at the product datasheet page for more details on these and other features.

Scale the analog signal (output 2 only)

Press M/E until "ou2" is displayed.
Press S until "I" (4...20 mA analog current) or "U" (0...10 VDC for analog voltage) is displayed.
Press M/E to confirm setting.
Press M/E until "ASP" is displayed.
Press S to enter the value representing the analog start point (4 mA / 0 VDC).
Press M/E to confirm setting.
Press M/E until "AEP" is displayed.
Press S to enter the value representing the analog end point (20 mA / 10 VDC).
Press M/E to confirm setting. After 15 seconds, the meter returns to normal run mode.

Note that the minimum distance between ASP and AEP is 20% of the full measuring range of the meter.

Setup totalizing function (output 1 only)

Press M/E until "ou1" is displayed.
Press S until "ImP" is displayed. This is the pulse output setting.
Press M/E to confirm setting.
Press M/E until "ImPS" is displayed. The is the volumetric pulse value.
Press S until the desired volume per pulse is displayed.
Press M/E to confirm setting.
Press M/E until "ImPR" is displayed. Set to "YES" for a pulse every time volume set above flows through the meter or "NO" for a single pulse when the volume above flows through the meter.
Press S to confirm setting. After 15 seconds, the meter returns to normal run mode.

3. What is the ZH4217 and how does I use it or another external pushbutton to reset the totalizer?

Accepted Answer

The ZH4217 is a kit consisting of KT6301 pushbutton, E12380 cover for the pushbutton labeled "OFF", and EVC847 y-splitter.

Setup

On the SU, change OU2 to [In.D] and Din2 to [HIGH] using the step-by-step procedures below. These procedures should be used with any external pushbutton reset.
When using the ZH4217, connect the KT6301 to channel B of the EVC847 and connect the SM sensor to channel A. Then, connect power to channel C with pin 1 to +24 VDC and pin 3 to ground.

The totalizer will be reset to zero when the pushbutton is pressed.

For 3-pushbutton SUs

Press Mode / Enter button to enter menu.
Press [▼] to EF, press mode enter button.
Press [▼] to OUT2, press mode enter button.
Press [▼] to ou2, press mode enter button.
Press and hold [▲] or [▼], the display will begin to flash. Keep [▲] or [▼] pressed until [In.D] is displayed. Release and briefly press mode enter. (ou2 will be displayed)
Press [▼] until DIn2 is displayed. Briefly press mode enter.
Press and hold [▲] or [▼], the display will begin to flash. keep [▲] or [▼] pressed until [HIGH] is displayed. Release and briefly press mode enter.

For 2-pushbutton SUs

Press Mode / Enter button to enter menu.
Press Mode / Enter button to OU2, press set button.
Press and hold set button the display will begin to flash. Keep Set button pressed until [In.D] is displayed. Release and briefly press Mode / Enter. (OU2 will be displayed)
Press Mode / Enter button until DIn2 is displayed. Briefly press Set button.
Press and hold Set button; the display will begin to flash. Keep Set button pressed until [HIGH] is displayed. Release and briefly press Mode / Enter.

4. Can the SU flow sensor be used in sanitary applications?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the SUHxxx sensors are suited for sanitary applications with 90% water and food oils from 30...68mm²/s at 40°C. They have FDA and 3A approvals and are supplied with Tri-clamp fittings.

5. Can I use the SUH2xx flowmeter with a 1 ½” pipe?

Accepted Answer

Yes, there is no issue with performance. However, the SUH2xx sensors have an internal diameter of 1”. So, there will be a transition back to 1 ½” on the outlet side of the flowmeter. This connection can create a space in the pipe that is not easily cleaned without a backwash. To avoid this, a concentric reducer should be used to ensure a smooth transition back to the original pipe size.

Additionally, it’s important to use a properly sized gasket to avoid unsanitary gaps in the process connection. When connecting the SUH2xx sensors without a smooth transition adapter into a 1 ½” pipe section, use 1 ½” Tri-clamp gaskets.
